Google says Bell’s internet throttling is illegal, shouldn’t “any” throttling be illegal?

In recent news, Bell has been accused by Google for throttling certain internet traffic in Canada which illegal under Canadian telecommunications law.

I am glad that Google is getting behind this since they have some power to deal with.

I think internet throttling is just a scam for telecommunication companies to make more money off consumers.

By throttling internet, big online businesses like Google, Yahoo, and AOL will get affected since it means less traffic in the long run.  Throttling might be the worse way to make someone pay for internet, especially since internet has been growing steadily.

They had throttling way back before the internet, when Prodigy and AOL were fighting for customers.  Both Prodigy and AOL used to have pay by hour.   But AOL started offering $10/month for unlimited dial-up access, which proves why AOL got real big while Prodigy just died.

Returning to the point, throttling isn’t much of a problem in the long run as I foresee that at least one telecommunication company will offer unlimited internet and they will get all the customers.

As far as I can see, telecommunication companies throttling internet are simply shooting themselves in the foot.  People by in large control how companies dictate their policies, not the other way around.  Let’s start by boycotting Bell, whatever that crap is.

Google and Yahoo working on GooHoo!

Google and Yahoo are now working together on a search advertising program.  This is good news since Microsoft is out of the game and I’ve always thought Yahoo could benefit from Google’s advertising/publishing programs.

Why did we make this agreement? Quite simply, we think it is good for users, advertisers and publishers. By offering Google’s industry-leading technology to Yahoo!, the whole system becomes more efficient, and everyone benefits:

  • Consumers will see more relevant ads when they are looking for information and browsing the web. And with interoperability between IM services, users will have easier access to even more of their contacts.
  • Publishers currently in the Yahoo! Publisher Network will benefit from Google’s advertising technology, potentially increasing the revenue they earn from their sites.

Advertisers will have new ways to reach their target customers online more efficiently.

Adsense for Feeds launching next week!

Google will be launching adsense ads for feeds next week.  This will be great since I have been using Yahoo publisher as Google Adsense doesn’t currently support feedvertising.

If you have a lot of subscribers, you might be able to make some more money with the new feeds addition.  But for most of you, it might not make a difference if you are not making money with Adsense anyways…

This is huge news for content publishers. As we know first-hand, monetization on RSS feeds to-date has been mediocre at best compared to Web-based advertising, and with an increasing amount of reading and conversation taking place off-site, that’s a brewing problem in the world of content publishing. It also means that the few remaining hold outs who only publish partial feeds (I’m looking at you CNET and The New York Times) may finally offer full feeds, since they can now be effectively monetized. On the other hand, for RSS consumers, it probably means the free ride is over.

How to increase web traffic from zero to 200 visitors per day in a week!

Quantity still rules in the Blogging World - Part II

To prove that quantity rules in the blogging world, I averaged about 5-10 blog posts per day on this site, Zedomax.net over the last week or so.

Before that, I rarely updated the site and wasn’t trying to bring any traffic.

As you can see, with lots of hard work blogging, you can easily go from 20-30 visitors to 200-300 visitors within a week or two as seen in the above statcounter graph.

Now, my next goal is to hit around 500-1000 visitors within the next 2 weeks. I probably won’t achieve it but it’s a good goal.  On the other hand, there is also good chance I just might get there if I push to 24 blog posts per day.

Another secret I can tell you about why “quantity” works is that Google search engine is “all” about finding new information fast and giving that to the consumers.

The reason why the top 100 bloggers have minimum of 24 posts per day is because our world is full of information. Think of how many new things that happen daily. Do you think you can cover all the new information in just 24 blog posts? No, the answer is that who ever is providing new information quicker to the search engines will get a boost in traffic from the people who search for that information.

Now, the secret is, “you gotta blog about something new”.

If you look carefully, almost every blog post on this blog was about some new company that launched something. Next time someone wants to find out about that new company, guess who’s getting that traffic?

Well, enough about blogging secrets, you will have to wait till next time for more. Make sure to subscribe to the blog!

Icahn’s new Nominees will help Monopolize the web with Microsoft?

Well, this is a blog about whether Icahn’s new decision will make a better internet for all of us or not.

What is proposing is a serious push for Yahoo (YHOO) and Microsoft (MSFT) to merge, this is great for investors, a serious threat to the internet community.

To Icahn’s letter and his new Nominees, the only concern I have is that MicroHoo will not be so great for us consumers.

Why?

Well, Microsoft has proven itself “useless” with its new Vista operating system. I do not condone “monopolized” technology that does not work well. If Vista proved to be otherwise, I might not think this way but especially after how Microsoft and all its partner PC retailers including Dell, HP, and others have NOT PROVIDED an XP solution to the new computers, this MicroYahoo thing will just kill off Yahoo completely and eventually we are all going to end up using crappy software and web search engine from Microsoft.

On the bright side, Microsoft has done some good things like the TellMe service for blackberry and the World Wide Telecope. They are doing more things to make the internet better but I am just afraid of what’s on the back of their mind.

I won’t even go back to the Netscape Microsoft era but I think Microsoft will do better if they stayed completely away from the search engine market as much as possible. Heck, they have Live search, why do they need to aquire Yahoo?

What I’d rather see than MicroHoo

Personally, I would rather see Google (GOOG) + Yahoo (YHOO), a GooHoo search engine would be more likely better fit for us consumers.

rVita Launches \'Nirvana\' for Integrative Medicine Searches

rVita just launched a new search service called, ‘Nirvana’ for finding remedies to your health problems.  I did a search on “athlete’s foot” and got nothing.  They must have launched a little too early as I do see lots of bugs.

Premium 3G for iPhone Overrated?

Premium 3G for iPhone Overrated?

According to recent rumors, Apple’s iPhone, will offer a “premium” 3G service, supposedly a lot faster.

Will consumers jump on the bandwagon?

I’d say hell no as a previous users of AT&T’s “premium” service (when it was Cingular), the premium 3G service is still slower than Sprint’s CDMA network.

Heck, I did a lot of testing over at our dot com blog when 3G was out about a year ago.

What iPhone needs is WiMax, a proven technology that seems to take years to get in the hands of U.S. consumers including me.

iPhone + 3G Premium = Still really slow browsing, still really slow twitts, still really slow whatever.

What Apple should have done is partner with Sprint in the beginning and they would have a lot faster speeds by now and 5 to 10 times faster once Sprint rolls out their WiMax.

Clearwire + Sprint = bad

AT&T + Apple = bad

Sprint + Apple = good

Clearwire + AT&T = good (let the bad companies work together so we don’t have to face them…)

According to a discovery by Chronic Productions, published earlier this weekend, and relayed by MacRumors, Engadget Mobile, et al., prospective users of the next iteration of Apple’s most ambitious mobile device will be given the option to browse the Internet via 3G broadband or by way of the now-standard 2.5G/EDGE connection. All you’ll have to do is flip a software-based switch, similar to how iPhone users currently transfer between EDGE and Wi-Fi connectivity.
